ACCOMPLISHMENTS - your representative

  1. Re-synchronized lights on Route 3 between I95 and Andora Drive - greatly improving Route 3 traffic situation for very low cost.
  2. Lowered the residential property tax below the equalized rate - first time since 1975 this had been done.
  3. Requested the repaving of Bragg Road extended in front of the Spotsylvania Mall - by Starbucks / Coldwell Banker / Marine Federal Credit Union - Mall repaved
  4. Facilitated the completion of the stalled out Route 3 widening project (finally got this thing moving and completed)
  5. Personally achieved 5 cents lowering of our personal property tax rate in 2015 - see taxes page - we need this even lower in the future!
  6. Facilitated achieving 24/7 coverage at each of our fire stations - not done prior to my election.
  7. Hired more career firefighters.
  8. Facilitated teacher pay raises and the hiring of additional teachers while keeping residential tax rate low (see education page).
  9. Member of FAMPO, George Washington Toll Road Authority, George Washington Regional Commission - helped stop the toll road to Gordon Road.
  10. Generated transportation ideas with state leaders - with Culpepper County - with Orange County - these ideas are still out there and moving (slowly) forward that really resolve traffic issues vice those that are for economic development.
  11. Brought revenue producing water tower concept to Spotsylvania County Staff - causing Cherry Lane water tower to be repainted, revenue to the County, and protected Citizen's on 5 Mile Road and Single Oak Road's property rights.
  12. Restored Sheridan Hills sign after VDOT tore it down and refused to rebuild it as part of the Route 3 widening project.
  13. Kept residential / commercial property tax rates low the entire duration I've been on the board.
  14. Helped multiple Courtland Citizens on property rights issues.
  15. Helped multiple Home Owners Associations with issues they were having in their area.
  16. Fought the Virginia Assembly of Counties for Spotsylvania County's property rights - see property rights tab. 
  17. Tried to send back over a million dollars of federal funding and save $300K of Spotsy taxpayer's money for $567/linear foot sidewalk to a gravel road.
  18. Stopped additional funding to the National Academy of Environmental design after discovering they were not doing what they said they would do - saving $500K of taxpayer money.  (they have subsequently gone bankrupt)
  19. Always listened to Courtland Residents issues - and acted on them.
  20. Worked with VDOT to resolve multiple resident issues.
  21. Encouraged Staff to look for other revenue sources than taxpayer money such as advertising and cell tower revenue off water towers.  See Government Efficiency tab.
  22. Opposed the public funding of the building of a minor league baseball stadium and parking garage that would be controlled by the minor league team (outside scope of government) - see issues tab
  23. Consistently advocated for reducing taxes vice raising them.
  24. Discovered credit card over use by County Staff - and initiated corrective action. 
  25. Helped residents in Governors Green, Waverly Village, and Maple grove with issue involving access through only Sawgrass -
  26. Brought better security to the Motts Run water treatment plant.
  27. Took very dangerous chlorine gas canisters out of Motts Run water treatment plant and replaced with safer method of water treatment.
  28. Requested more speeding patrols on River Road - and had stealth radar placed on River Road to identify how bad speeding issue is.
  29. November 2014, opposed and won support from majority of board, a proposed admissions tax request - that would have imposed a NEW County tax on any event that charged an admission fee.
