Bottom line
I made promises in 2011 – when I ran for the BOS the first time - I’ve kept each one of them. I have represented the residents of Spotsylvania County to the best of my ability – and not anyone or anything else. If you haven’t followed my record, I would encourage you to research it, and you will see that the promises I made – who I am and what I said I stand for – were delivered.
These same promises will be delivered again if I am elected again to be your representative on the School Board as I have proven while serving the past 12 years on the board of supervisors.
Why I’m running again - this time for School Board:
My twelve years on the board of supervisors has taught me a lot. I ran in 2011 because I had taken a homeschool class on the U.S. Constitution which encouraged people at the end to not just complain if they were not happy in the direction our country was heading – but to get involved in local government – so that is what I did.
Our school systems in America and even locally are failing us. Instead of a focus on education, many in leadership want to focus on other, "activist" and "indoctrination" themes other than simply education our children in reading, writing, arithmetic and science. MY FOCUS WILL BE TO GET US BACK TO TEACHING THESE SUBJECTS AGAIN as a PRIME FOCUS, not as an afterthought.
Unfortunately, even locally, there are some members of our school board that prefer the activists path. Some are grown adults that unfortuantly act like young chidren even during school board meetings instead of the professionals and leaders they should be.
I want to bring mutual respect and common civility and decency back to our school board meetings.
I've seen first hand decisions made by the majority of our school board that continued lock downs due to COVID. I've seen private schools with minimal lock downs and their students are thriving - where our school board majority had even K - 6 locked down to virtual learning only. I will also fight that our schools stay focused on education and fully support every parent's right in being a full decision maker on what their children are taught. Parent's rights in our school system have simply been trampled on - no more.
