I just wanted to give a special shout out to Kirk Twigg - Spotsylvania County's Livingston District school board member who took a day off of work this past Friday - March 24th - to facilitate visiting several of our schools and the school's facility maintenance department on the same day!

I have visited our schools as a parent at various sporting events, as a Supervisor visiting and reading to classes and of course when some schools have had county issues that are in my swim lane at least a dozen times since becoming a supervisor - but this focus on a straight tour of several schools in one day was indeed excellent!

I also want to thank the school principals, assistant principals, and teachers who took the time out of their busy day to talk with me on this "happy Friday".

I learned a lot of things, but most importantly, I learned that our principals and teachers truly LOVE our children.  I was so impressed with so many children who would stop and give their principal a hug.  Wow!  You guys rock!

I also learned that our principals are very intelligent and highly organized.  I knew this before going - but I can't express how much it showed during my time with them.  My hat is truly off to each of you I visited and the others I just could not make it to in one day.

Thank YOU for all you do for our kids and thank you again Mr. Twigg for making it happen!

Best,

Dave Ross

New Ambulances too!

Spotsylvania County has taken delivery of 12 four-wheel-drive ambulances over the last two years, greatly improving the ability to provide reliable patient care and transport throughout the County in all road conditions.  Eight of these ambulances were purchased at one time using FY13, 14, and 15 funds, for a total of $1,438,432, which equates to an average expenditure of $479,477 each year.

These ambulances were purchased just prior to a significant increase in costs that resulted from new national standards that went into effect in 2015.  An additional 4 ambulances were purchased in FY16, which included the modifications required by the new national standards, at a cost of $222,682 per unit, totaling $890,728.

Each station in the County houses at least one of these ambulances, to assure 4-wheel-drive capability is available to crews in the event of bad weather.

Thank you Chief Cullinan for this timely information and . . . .

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!
