Spotsylvania County has taken delivery of 12 four-wheel-drive ambulances over the last two years, greatly improving the ability to provide reliable patient care and transport throughout the County in all road conditions. Eight of these ambulances were purchased at one time using FY13, 14, and 15 funds, for a total of $1,438,432, which equates to an average expenditure of $479,477 each year.
These ambulances were purchased just prior to a significant increase in costs that resulted from new national standards that went into effect in 2015. An additional 4 ambulances were purchased in FY16, which included the modifications required by the new national standards, at a cost of $222,682 per unit, totaling $890,728.
Each station in the County houses at least one of these ambulances, to assure 4-wheel-drive capability is available to crews in the event of bad weather.
